MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE EBENEZER BAPTIST FAMILY IN MBALE!

"For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government, and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore." Isaiah 9: 6-7

It is our prayer that the joy and peace that is talked about in the above verses will find a resting place in your hearts during this Christmas season.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that each of you have done to make 2018 and incredibly unforgettable year!!  May the love of Christ fill your homes and your lives throughout the coming year and we look forward to celebrating the Lord's goodness in even greater ways with each of you as God continues the work which HE is doing in Mbale, Uganda.

ONE CHILD AT A TIME ... GIVE THE LIFE-CHANGING GIFT OF AN EDUCATION THIS CHRISTMAS!!!

"But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus ... the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God."  Acts 20:24

WHAT IS THE GREATEST WAY TO IMPACT A CHILD'S LIFE IN MBALE?  This is the question that we get asked over and over again by those who sponsor children through our Child Sponsorship Program (more information about this can be found by clicking here: Child Sponsorship Link) and from those just wanting to know how to come along side of the ministry in transforming lives of the children who live in the Namatala Slum.  The answer to that question is reflected over and over in the letters that the children write to their sponsors as most of them are very intentional in thanking their sponsor for helping them be able to consistently attend school!

As this year draws to a close you have a unique opportunity to help provide the children who will be attending the inaugural classes of Primary 1-4 of Ebenezer Christian School the gift of a fully furnished school.  The building will be finished, the desks are purchased and on site, the school administrator is at work bringing in the best teachers and your year-end gift to Mission Mbale will help purchase chalk, text books, pencils and other miscellaneous school supplies. 






BUT the greatest gift that your donations will provide will be the gift of Education because a majority of the children who will be attending Ebenezer Christian School are orphans or from very needy households.  These are children who without our help would not have an opportunity to even attend school!!!  So in essence your gifts are truly providing that "future and hope" that God's Word promises that He wants for His children in Jeremiah 29:11

The following pictures are of Ebenezer Christian School which will open for Grades 1-4 on February 7, 2018! It is hard to believe that in July 2017 plans for this school were still nestled away in our "long-range" plans...BUT God had different plans.  Celebrate with us during this Christmas season the endless supply of God's love and goodness as this school will provide for the children of the Namatala Slum an opportunity that many of them would have never had...A QUALITY, CHRIST-CENTERED EDUCATION!!!!

  

 

These pictures are from the Honors Day Program that the leadership of Ebenezer Baptist hosted last week for the children of Ebenezer to recognize them for their excellent work during the 2017 School Year.  Most of our students at Ebenezer Baptist ranked at the top of their classes in the government schools they attended last year. They have begun their long mid-year break and when school resumes on February 7, 2019, many of these students will be a part of the inaugural classes of Ebenezer Christian School!!!

A THANKSGIVING PRAISE OFFERING ... THE POWER OF TWO!!!

As Thanksgiving 2018 winds to an end my heart is full to overflowing as I think of how God continues to grow both numerically and Spiritually this family known as Mission Mbale!  Each face, each passion, each renewed commitment to be on mission for God, each step leading into a deeper trust in the God that we all serve ... each of these things and so many, many more that each of you bring to this family is deeply appreciated!!

As we share together with our own families on this day of Thanksgiving, let us rejoice and give thanks that God has chosen to bring each of us together for this special journey of gifting His love, His peace, His provisions, His joy, His life, His hope, and His salvation to the beautiful people of Mbale, Uganda.  Each of you are an integral part of God's mission of mercy to the people He has chosen to impact with the Gospel of Christ, and because of your willingness to be a part of HIS work radical transformation is taking place in that slum village!

A GOD OF PERFECT SUFFICIENCY ... THAT'S MY KING ... LET THE SCHOOL BELLS RING!!!!

"And God shall make EVERY grace abound to you, so that having ALL sufficiency in ALL things at ALL times, you may abound in EVERY good work!"  2 Corinthians 9:8

This may well be the verse you see on every post from me for the foreseeable future because it so perfectly describes who God has proven Himself to be for those of us in the Mission Mbale family.  Thanks to all of you who have allowed yourselves to be His vessels through which He has provided His PERFECT SUFFICIENCY during 2018 which has been a year of absolutely unbelievable accomplishments on the mission field in Mbale, Uganda.  

We began the year celebrating God's faithfulness in 2017 that included His provisions to place security fencing around the 10+ acres of farmland which unbeknownst to us would soon house the shell of what would, in God's perfect timing, become the home of Grades 1-3 of Ebenezer Christian School. This beautiful plot of creation also included two buildings which would eventually become the permanent homes for the 30 orphaned and at-risk children who had spent the past two years of their lives calling a 40' x 40' tent their home.  Yes, much was accomplished in 2017 but God was apparently just warming up as 2018 has truly been a year of Jubilee as He has allowed us to experience over and over those "great and mighty things which you knowest not" that are talked about in Jeremiah 33:3.

I will be sharing more of the details of this amazing year of ministry in our year-end newsletter but just let me wet your appetite by saying that we now have a 30-passenger school bus, a 40' x 40' tent that no longer contains bunk beds, and even as I write the forms are being constructed to begin pouring the slab which will become the roof of Ebenezer Baptist Church's new 750 seat sanctuary!  Christmas is going to be a very special time in the Namatala Slum as the village gathers in the new church to celebrate the birth of the King of Kings!

Today though, I want to talk about one very special blessing that was bestowed upon the ministry by the beautiful people at the Healing Hands Foundation of doTERRA Essential Oils.  This generous organization first reached out to partner with Mission Mbale in September 2017 when they sponsored the first of two $10,000.00 Matching Grant Campaigns.  It was through the initial campaign that almost $35,000.00 was raised which provided the security fencing and completed the work on the permanent homes for the children.  However, the campaign was so successful that we were able to complete the shell of Phase 1 of Ebenezer Christian School and today's post is the story of how that miracle continues to unfold in 2018.

As we entered 2018, we had already recognized that God had some extraordinary things in store for us as First Baptist Newnan GA had chosen to partner with us to help begin the process of

building the permanent sanctuary for Ebenezer Baptist in Mbale.  Plans were in place for the first of several fundraisers at the church to be held during the month of April and as a result our board made a decision to postpone the finishing of the school until after the church-build promotions were over.  However, we never ceased praying and trusting that our God of PERFECT SUFFICIENCY would prove Himself faithful for everything we would need to resume the push to have the school ready for a February 2019 start and WOW did He ever provide.  

The last scheduled fundraiser for the church-build took place during the month of August and in the first week of September we received word from doTERRA that they wanted to partner with us by offering a second $10,000.00 Matching Grant to help prepare the school for the scheduled February opening.  This is a very, very rare thing for the Healing Hands Foundation to do a second Matching Grant Campaign ... but God knew our needs!!

I began this post by talking of  the PERFECT SUFFICIENCY of the God which we serve and I conclude by giving you the bottom line numbers of where we ended the campaign in which almost $12,000.00 was given during the month-long campaign.  As the campaign drew to a close we sent an email to Julius, the General Secretary/Executive Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist, requesting an itemized cost projection to get the school ready for the February opening.  Although their will still be some non-essential work such as completing the tiling of the bathrooms and the installation of solar lighting and an emergency back-up generator, the cost to get the school ready for the start of school on February 7 is going to be $21,396.00.  The doTERRA Matching Grant Campaign netted a total of $21,425.00 ... MORE THAN ENOUGH! That's my King!!! HALLELUJAH!!!! And ALL the time God is good!!!

DoTerra Helping Hands Challenge - Goal Exceeded!!

We are overjoyed to announce that our Helping Hands giving campaign through doTerra was a huge success!  Our Mission Mbale friends and family, together with the amazing folks of doTerra, collected  $11,580 in donations.  Combined with doTerra's matching offer, we raised a total of $21,580!!!  We give all praise and glory to the Lord, as He continues to provide for every need as we prepare to open the doors of Ebenezer Christian School in Mbale, Uganda.  And we thank you so much for your generosity, support and prayers!  And we want to say a special word of thanks to Joy Tarpley for her passion for ministry, her leadership in this fundraising endeavor, and her love for Jesus and the people of Mbale!

WHEN GOD BUSTS LOOSE ... IT'S GONNA BE A WILD RIDE!!!

Ephesians 3:14-21 (NIV)


14 "For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

There really is not a better passage of scripture to describe what God is allowing us to be a part of in Mbale, Uganda!   We truly are humbled to the point of kneeling before the Father as we watch Him continue to do the thing that He does best ... THE IMPOSSIBLE!!

The past few weeks have been filled with the goodness of God in so many beautiful ways which powerfully point to the fact that HE truly has chosen to "do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine"!  Life has been wide-open for Mary Faye and I as God has literally blessed us to overflowing over the past several weeks with the birth of a new grandson, Nathanael James Kough; the awesome response of the God's people to the doTERRA Healing Hands Matching Grant to help continue the work on Ebenezer Christian School; and finally, the unbelievable progress made in the past month to the building of the permanant church in the slum village!!!  As the song from the seventies says: "How can I say thanks, for the things You have done for me; Things so undeserved, yet You gave to prove Your love for me..." 

Unbelievable; Amazing; Unimaginable; Crazy Good; Powerful; etc.  We are absolutely at a loss for words to adequately describe what we have watched God do in our midst in these past few weeks as He continues to multiply the fruits of our labors along side of Ebenezer Baptist Church in the heart of the Namatala Slum.  

As you browse through the attached photos of the progress of the work in Mbale, bear in mind that on September 6 there was a 40' x 60' tent in the middle of the property where there is now a 45' x 150' L-shaped concrete slab built on a foundation designed to support three floors.  You will see in the pictures that the exterior walls of the ground floor which will house a 750-seat sanctuary as well as office and classroom space are now rising above the foundation as the permanent church building that the members of Ebenezer Baptist Church have been praying for begins to take shape!

In God's perfect timing we are believing that the second floor will be added to house a state-of-the-art medical facility which will be dedicated to helping meet the medical needs of those who otherwise would not be able to get medical treatment because of the poverty in which they live. 

About two years ago, Mike Emeott and I were shown a copy of the vision that Pastor Fred and the leadership of Ebenezer Baptist had for the development of that small plot of land where the worship tent and Children's Shelter would occupy for the better part of three years.  I must admit that neither he nor I had enough vision or faith to embrace their dream so God had to just move forward and over the past couple of years has grown the faith of so many of us in the Mission Mbale family to the point where now we "have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge", and now with each passing day we are being "filled to the measure of all the fullness of God".  My friends, it just doesn't get much better than that!!!

IN A POWERFUL affirmation of their commitment to make a difference in the lives of "the least of these" which Jesus spoke about in Matthew 25:40, DOTERRA's Healing Hands Foundation has once again chosen to bless the precious children of Mbale, Uganda by partnering with Mission Mbale to help move forward the construction of the school.  Their campaign last year was launched to help fund the placement of security fencing around the 10+ acres of farmland where the permanent homes for the 29 orphaned and at-risk children would be located so that they could finally move from their "tent" home.  The security fencing was a requirement for being able to move the children to their newly completed permanent homes.  Last year's campaign was so successful that not only was the land fenced and the children moved into their permanent homes, funds were also available to begin construction of the classrooms for Grades 1-3 of Ebenezer Christian School, a project that had not been planned for several more years!!!  And ALL the time God is good!!!!  ALL THE TIME!!!!

OH YES ... GOD CONTINUES to blow us away with His goodness, willingness, AND ability to provide for the ministry needs in ways far beyond our wildest imaginations!!!  The building of this school is the culmination of a vision of many who have been praying for years!  Their prayer ... for the provisions to provide an opportunity for countless numbers of children from the Namatala Slum in Mbale, Uganda the chance to receive a quality education grounded in Christian principles.  Please pray about partnering with us in this very timely MATCHING GRANT OPPORTUNITY which God has provided.  It's timing could not be more perfect as the work on the school building continues with the placing of windows and doors, lighting, plastering of walls, painting, plumbing, etc as we move towards the projected February 2019 opening date.
