OCTOBER 2019 MISSION MBALE MINISTRY UPDATE!

EVEN IF ALL ELSE FAILS...A WORD FROM THE DEPTHS OF MY HEART!

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my Words will not pass away." Matthew 24:35

TeamMbaleOctober2019 is back on the ground in America and trying to get re-oriented to life in the fast lane.  Thank you for your prayers that have helped make this an unbelievable trip.  Although every trip is awesome and fulfilling, this trip was extra special in that we were able to see undeniable evidence that the Gospel is taking deep root in the village surrounding Ebenezer Christian School.  The classroom that hosts the 6-week old church plant-Ebenezer Baptist at Namabasa, was beyond packed with many sitting outside on the porch.  The Spirit of the Lord was truly in that place as the people rejoiced, danced, prayed, and gleaned great wisdom from God's Word as Mike Emeott preached his first sermon at the new church plant.  However, the greatest of all the blessings was that an older Muslim man and his wife came forward to accept Christ, along with seven others, and  Pastor Chad Cooper, Mike, and I had the honor of baptizing them along with 31 other new brothers and sisters in Christ on Sunday afternoon at Ebenezer Baptist Church.  Since the baptism pool was completed in July 2019, ninety-one people have gone into those waters to tell the world that Christ is now the Lord of their lives!!! God is at work in a mighty way...ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS NAME!!!!

As I sit here some 9000 miles removed from my Ugandan family, my mind races with many thoughts. Most are simply reflections of the beauty, the victories, the joy, and the "WOW GOD!" moments that defined every step of this amazing journey back to Mbale as well as of the many before. I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this post as it is very crucial that we remain committed to keeping the main thing the main thing as we continue our faith journey together!!

I beg you now to allow me to bare my heart in the following paragraphs concerning those "What If" thoughts (and questions) which are ALWAYS going to exist when doing Christ-centered ministry in a self-centered world. As Pastor Fred always says: "Where there is vision... There will always be provision." Praise God, this trip has strongly confirmed that the vision for sharing the Gospel in Mbale has NEVER been stronger than it is today!  As you read the following words, hear me very clearly in that I do not write this post out of a spirit of fear or doubt about the future of Mission Mbale's ministry presence in Mbale, Uganda. It is simply a reflection on the realities of doing ministry in the real world and the challenges of learning to Stay the Course even when the "course" is constantly changing!

Matthew 24:35 above states that "Heaven and earth WILL pass away" and the reality is that ministry efforts are not immune to this declaration by our Lord! To believe that Mission Mbale could not be impacted by events such as political upheavals, a world-wide financial crisis, wars, terrorism, etc would be a very unrealistic and unhealthy ministry plan!  Just as dangerous though would be for us to begin focusing on the "What Ifs" is and begin pulling back in the ways that we are helping expand the Kingdom of God in Mbale because of a fear of the unknown! To abandon our dreams and visions to spread the Life-transforming Gospel of Christ's love IS NOT an option!

The past four years have truly been a beautiful display of God's perfect timing and provision. However, I fear that the things that stand out most in people's minds are those earthly things that will pass away... Buildings, farmland, school buses, etc, etc! However, those of us who have walked on the ground in Mbale can tell a much different story about the unbelievable life-transformation that is happening in that place!  The last thing we want to do is become numbers-driven but yet we must also not fail to point to Jesus and rejoice in what our Lord is doing there as marked by the ninety-0ne baptisms since July.

My "keep the main thing the main thing" challenge for all of us in the Mission Mbale family as we move forward together in ministry is found in the Words of our Lord in Mark 16:15--And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation."  We will continue to build and go as the Lord makes provisions for these things but they will simply be an outflow of blessings that come as we faithfully share the GOSPEL of Christ's love to the people of Mbale. Why? Because of the promise found in the last part of the verse which started this post: "God's Word WILL NOT pass away!"

To those of you who have stood with us over the past few years... THANK YOU! Your faithfulness has rang out this unmistakable message loud and clear: Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness!  We are humbled and blessed to have each you surrounding us and simply ask that you commit to staying the course with us in the months and years ahead! Though we may not know what the future holds... WE KNOW WHO HOLDS THE FUTURE! AMEN? PRAISE GOD! HALLELUJAH! AMEN!

Although there may come a day when the Mazungu's (white people) will not be able walk freely in the villages that we have come to love, if we remain true to doing what we have been called there to do...Proclaim God's love for the precious people of Mbale, the work that God has begun there will continue on because of this promise ... the Words of God WILL NOT pass away!

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith." Hebrews 12:1-3

2019---THE UNFOLDING OF GOD’S GLORY CONTINUES…

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with you the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38

MINISTRY UPDATE “ALL FOR GOD’S GLORY!!!” SEPTEMBER 2019

We give all glory to our heavenly Father for HIS faithfulness of going before us in Uganda. We also send our heartfelt thanks to each of you for standing with us on this side of the world in this exciting and growing ministry! Our prayer is that this Ministry Update Email will complement our website updates and our Facebook page posts in helping to keep you informed of God’s marvelous works in Mbale.
God continues heaping Grace upon Grace on His work there. Our ministry hubs, Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Namatala Slum, as well as Ebenezer Christian School which is located in a rural farming village known as Namabasa, are both thriving! The following highlights will show just how active God continues to be as He further expands His Kingdom in Mbale, Uganda. Enjoy!

  • Souls are being added almost daily to God’s family as He continues pouring out His grace upon the people who live in these villages!
Our long-awaited Child Sponsorship page is now up and running! It is your One-Stop location for making a life-changing investment into a child’s life!! Click on the high-lighted link above to choose your child NOW!

  • Praise God for the provisions to replace the damaged water tank at the school, school bus repairs, and other maintenance concerns. God is so good!!!

  • Hundreds of Food Blessings were showered upon needy families as a result of special donations which allowed Ebenezer to purchase beans, rice, and corn meal. Food bags were distributed to those impacted by the severe famine due to the flooding earlier in the summer.

  • Your generous donations have enabled us to move forward and pour the roof slab on the new classroom wing at Ebenezer Christian School! We are now only $26,000 away from being able to finish and furnish these three classrooms by the end of the year and be ready to add Grade 5 for the 2020 school year. PTL!

  • Ebenezer Baptist Church celebrated their 13th Anniversary of becoming a church plant of First Baptist Mbale and continued as Ebenezer started a new church plant in Namabasa. The first services were held at the school on September 8th. The church plant answers requests made by the residents of this predominantly Muslim village to have a church that “teaches about the love of Jesus” which has been shown to them by those associated with the school.

  • Pastor Fred began teaching the Youth in an on-going Bible Study and the youth were able to attend a week long conference in Entebbe...a first for them!

  • The school is nearing 100 students. Over thirty-five students now live on site.

  • A very generous donation was received to purchase equipment and instruments to help establish a state-of-the-art Music Education Program at the school!

  • October 16-26---Eight members of our third team of 2019 will be in Mbale to join the Ebenezer Family in celebrating God’s unbridled goodness! Pray for us!!!!

Ebenezer Christian School - Completion of Phase 2 of the school construction

We have the ground floor slab and the walls completed and are awaiting the funding to pour the roof slab. The total cost to complete these three classrooms including desks, lighting, etc. is approximately $50,000 which will also provide for a large septic system to cover the school and dorms and complete the bathroom/showers that are part of the school structure. We are striving to have the school completely finished by the end of the year so as to have the classrooms ready for classes at the first of February 2020 at which time we shall have classrooms for Grades 1-5 and will have an additional room for use as a dormitory. We are now nearing 100 students enrolled with close to 40 of those students living on site full time.

Please donate today! Thank you for your continued support of Mission Mbale and all that God is doing!

2019—THE UNFOLDING OF GOD’S GLORY!!!

“Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things which you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3

As I reflect back on 2019, the word “UNFOLDING” just keeps resurfacing in my mind. God continues unfolding HIS plans for transformation in the lives of the people of Mbale, Uganda through the faithful, relentless sharing of Jesus’ unsurpassable love. KEEP PRAYING!!!!

JANUARY – Our sixth major trip was anchored by a team of thirteen missionaries. The team led in-home Bible studies, ran evangelistic sports mini-camps, took a day trip to the mountains to encourage the pastors serving there, and deepened our relationships with our children. We witnessed the ongoing construction of the new church…Ugandan construction is truly something to behold! At the school site we marveled at the finishing touches being made on the first three classrooms of Ebenezer Christian School in Namabasa. God also opened the door for us to move out into the village surrounding the school to begin in-home Bible studies. Several Muslim residents accepted Christ as their Savior…YES GOD CAN!!!

FEBRUARY –FEBRUARY 4th--OPENING DAY OF EBENEZER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL. Plans, preparations and prayers were answered as 73 students excitedly walked into their new school for the first time…TOTALLY INDESCRIBABLE! By God’s blessings, school began with Primary Grades 1-4 and the lives of the children are being bonded together through the love of Christ. The Gospel also reached deep into the village when the Jesus Film was shown on the side of the school building to over 100 residents of this predominately Muslim village!

MARCH – Pastor Chad Cooper and Pastor Stephen Peeples had returned to America in January and shared with their churches of a need to rebuild the home of Pastor David from the mountains who suffers from advanced stages of diabetes. To God’s glory that home is now complete! The concrete roof on the church was completed and the process of preparing Ebenezer’s new sanctuary officially began…a twelve-year vision is now a reality!!!

APRIL – The daily feeding program of the children continues to grow and Ebenezer Christian school is thriving! A great celebration took place on Easter weekend as the first services were held in the new sanctuary to the glory of God. It is now very functional and finishing work continues as funding is available. And ALL the time God is good…AMAZINGLY GOOD!!!

MAY – Even as heavy rains and flooding destroyed homes and crops, the Kingdom work continued. We often received word of lives being transformed though the matchless love of Christ as it flowed through the lives of the dedicated members of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Many Bibles were distributed to those who received Christ as they completed discipleship classes. The Bibles were purchased with funds provided by our generous supporters.

JUNE – God’s plans continued to unfold as we were blessed with adequate funding to begin construction of the next three permanent classrooms at ECS. The family of Ebenezer bonded together and cooked and fed many hundreds of people in the villages surrounding both the church and the school as a result of the growing famine due to extensive flooding.

JULY – Twenty-five team members returned to Mbale to serve and worship with our Ebenezer family in their new sanctuary! Many witnessed a baptism for the first time as over 50 new Christians were baptized in the new baptism pool following our Sunday service. As in years past, we hosted a Pastor’s Conference, evangelistic sports camps, a women’s Bible Study, and in-home Bible studies. The school enrollment has now increased to 91 students with 36 now living on site full-time. The American team was blessed with a special program of music and scripture memorization by the students. The American teachers were honored by being able to present lessons in the classrooms. Around twenty accepted Christ during the week and many more seeds were planted.

Just the Right Moment

The only thing more difficult than explaining the last day of our trip in a few words may be choosing one picture to go with the summary, but I'll do my best.  The last day is always hard--your heart is so full of love but saying goodbye is bittersweet, even when you know it is just 'bye for now.'  As we walked through Namatala this morning, we greeted those who were out and about, holding hands with children and taking photos along the way.  Through an alley way I caught the eye of a baby girl and tried to get the perfect artistic shot.  I only had a moment as we continued to move down the dirt path, and just when I was about to complain for missing my photographic opportunity, another young girl came bounding into view from behind a home.  She stopped and smiled, posing for my camera under dripping wet clothes hung out on a line, and then she was gone again.  So many other incredible events occurred today, but I just kept thinking of that precious girl.  God continues to reveal His sovereignty through the people of Ebenezer and Mission Mbale.  At just the right moment, He has provided for our every need, according to His plan and all for His glory.  Thank you for standing with us.  Tomorrow we begin the journey back to the US, but with every visit, we leave more of ourselves behind, here in this beautiful place.

The Seeds of Possibility

Today the men stayed at Ebenezer Baptist Church for a Pastor's Conference and the women and girls went to visit Ebenezer Christian School.  In both locations, we spent the day cultivating relationships.  Pastor Eric brought an incredible word to encourage pastors from Mbale and the surrounding mountain region.  It was such a great time of discipleship and fellowship.  At the school, the women and girls attended classes to observe and encourage the incredible teachers and their students.  The P3 class was learning about the germination of seeds into plants, and tonight some of our girls even came back to the hotel with homework!!  The men joined the women in the afternoon to lead a sports camp with soccer, volleyball, games, and lots of giggles.  All around the property playing were church members and students of Ebenezer, as well as many small children from the surrounding village.  These children are mesmerized to see a white person, much less shake hands and greet one.  Most speak no English, but that didn't stop anyone from enjoying our time together.  All this in front of a back drop of a school in operation, with one building and 2 temporary classrooms, dormitories, farmland, and another wing of the building halfway through construction.  So many seeds of possibility, we cannot wait to see what--and who--the Lord will grow up out of this fertile ground.

Never Too Late

It’s never too late. You are never too old. You are never too far gone to commit your life to Jesus. You are never too young to lift your lil light to shine praises to Him. Dance, sing, shout, clap, and declare His glory by worshipping him with your whole self—mind, soul and body. Sunday worship at Ebenezer is always our favorite. Services in the new building were amazing, and we give thanks for the day. We enjoyed music from all the choirs, parent/child dedication, and a message brought by Eric Marston. The rains came during the invitation, a symbol of the Lord’s blessings, and 21 more gave their lives to Christ. We finished with baptism of 51 people in Ebenezer’s brand new baptismal pool, including an elderly man named Victor. Praise God, it’s never too late.
